Existing Market
-Individuals in my
market are car or scooter owners, who commute often to a university campus.
These people deal with crowded and chaotic lots, which have seen accidents and
injuries throughout the years. I believe these people would be satisfied by my
proposal to increase lot size, build garages near campus, and add on to
existing lots. These solutions would help reduce stress and negative energy
towards the university by students, faculty, and visitors.
Interviews
-From this
interview with a scooter owner who has recently begun commuting herself, I received
2 pieces of valuable information. 1, the lots get especially crowded at certain
times of the day, at certain locations, and 2, parking near your class is difficult.
-This interview
with a car owner is interesting. He believes that there is no solution to the
parking problem. He exaggerates his point by saying that “his car gets a new
scratch everyday”
-A scooter rider
for years, turned biker, explains his transition from scooting to biking. The inconvenience
of parking a scooter and paying to fix the damages it endures during fall
parking lots, is enough for him to begin riding a bike.
Reflection
-I think that if I
wish to gain more involvement and popularity, I need to reach all aspects of
those affected. Whether that’s people who gave up their transportation for convenience
or someone who suffers from damages. Every student matters and in this case,
students’ possessions should be able to be kept safer while on the university
campus.
New Market
-A market that I have
not spent much time on is that of other universitiees nearby. With many big
schools around us, this concept could be spread to other places. The parking
epidemic here is bad, but if it’s the same at other institutions, the concept
could be successful.
Interviews
-My interview with
a student at FSU states that they have similar issues but not as bad it seems
like. This person owns a car and is able to ride a shuttle to campus, but knows
of many others who search for parking for hours.
-Another student
at FSU attempts to drive to class everyday but is usually met with a similar struggle
to those at UF. He explains how the lots at his school are poorly designed, and
the many parking garages are nearly half wide open due to owners trying to make
a dime by charging for most spaces.
Reflection
-With
confirmation that this issue does exist in other places, I can further enhance
my plan to include other schools. Although my idea so far is specifically aimed
at UF, adjustments would have to be made for full accommodation.
-Building
on lots close to campus is one suggestion I was given before that will be
further implicated on other campuses.
I think I have said this before, but there is clearly a need at UF for better parking conditions. Whether it be in the form of parking garages or just more spaces closer to class, this is definitely a good opportunity for you to address. It is interesting that UF is not the only problem area as well. Maybe if UF makes it a priority for change, these other universities will follow.

I wonder just how many bikers are only bikers due to the parking scarcity on campus as well as to prevent damage to their scooter or car. Perhaps that's why Gainesville is one of the most bike-friendly cities in the nation. Your idea about developing other colleges' parking lots is a smart idea for the future. I wonder if Sante Fe is crowded.
