Assignment 12A – Figuring out buyer behavior

Segment:
I chose a group of college students from the University of Florida, who either deal with the problem directly, or are affected by the problem. The first interview was with a girl who rides her scooter to campus during peak hours every day, another was with a male student who lives across the street from campus, and the last was a student with an orange parking decal.

Interviews:
            - From the first interview, I found that the possibility of more parking for the girl who rides everyday would make life easier. She said that she always asks herself why they don’t use some of the space near parking lots to just extend them.

-The interview conducted with the student living close to campus showed me the hassle of residents living near. Due to the need, parking is permitted at certain hours along streets near campus. This means that every day someone is parking in front of your house, which is annoying and inconvenient when someone who is invited over needs a space.

-The final interview was someone who pays every semester for a decal to park in certain lots on campus. He can never find spots in a convenient location and has caused him to park at meter spots or illegally risking a ticket. He recalls passing other lots with open spaces but not being able to park due to the restriction on his decal.

Summary:
Even though the issue takes place on campus, you don’t have to be the one dealing with the issue to be affected. Also, other students have seen the possibility of space for more parking and the inconvenience of only having a pass for one lot, when others have vacancies

  1. That is very interesting that there are so many other people out there who see the problem on a daily basis, yet the university has not. I wonder what needs to be done to get the attention of the person in charge. Maybe getting people to come together and sign a petition of some sort? Scheduling a meeting with one of the big wigs at the University who have the authority to do so? I'm sure you are working hard to figure this out- keep up the good work!

  2. Everytime I read your posts, David, I become so grateful that I don't have a car with me at school. Especially regarding that second interview- I would hate to have people parking right outside where I live, leaving no spots for guests. It's so obnoxious to have urban living problems when Gainesville is hardly even a city. It seems you've found a huge market, though.
