1. Weak wifi signal throughout my house. Why this
happens: Since many people have devices connected to the network, the signal is
weak and therefor causes problems for users during the busiest times of the day
when everyone needs internet.
2. Music cutting out in the house
speakers. Why this happens: The Bluetooth device
has a short range causing a break up in the signal anytime the DJ takes their
phone behind a wall or beyond a certain perimeter, which is difficult when you
need your phone around the house and are unable to leave it somewhere because
then you cannot control the music.
3. Receiving a bad lie in the bunker at
Mark Bostick Golf Course. Why this happens: Country
club owners cannot ensure that every player on the course knows how to properly
maintain the grounds, causing poor rake jobs in the bunkers, leaving divots and
footprints behind.
4. People driving slow in the left lane
on i75. Why this happens: Road rules are not
retaught during the course of someone maintaining their license, nor are they
taught thoroughly in the first place which causes some people to be unaware and
affect the flow of traffic by driving slow in the left lane.
5. Getting gum stuck to you under the
table. Why this happens: Kids aren’t allowed
to chew gum in some schools causing them to break the rules and have to
secretly dispose of the gum causing them to stick it in the closest concealed
place as possible, which later on gets stuck to someone or something.
6. Slamming on breaks heading east on
University Ave. Why this happens: Heading east on
University between 34th street and midtown it is a one lane road,
and due to drivers failing to signal nut stopping to turn left cause everyone
following them to slam on their brakes.
7. Arriving late to my 9:35 due to bus
traffic. Why this happens: Heading east on
university in the one lane section you encounter a few bus stops, which in the
morning can take several minutes more to reach your destination due to the stop
and go bus traffic.
8. Finding scooter parking on busy
mornings.
Why this happens: The university has a limited amount of scooter parking
in busy areas, causing congestion, confusion, and inconvenience for those who
still pay to have a spot.
9. Scooter obtaining damage while parked
in Buckman lot.
Why this happens: Due to the heavy congestion of scooters parked in the
small lot on Buckman, scooters get knocked over, scratched, and dented while
others attempt to jam their vehicle in a spot.
10. Having to wait at stop lights on a
scooter when nobody is behind you to activate the sensor.
Why this happens: Sensors at stop lights do not pick up scooters very
well due to the initial goal of the sensors to work best with cars. Some lights
in Gainesville are very weak on a scooter and can cause a long wait or possibly
a change of route eventually.
11. Doing all the work in a group
project.
Why this happens: While working in groups, some members may be less
interested, devoted, or involved causing some members to work harder and share
the results with the rest of the group.
12. Waiting in line for hours to get into
a bar in midtown during football season.
Why this happens: On busy gamedays thousands of fans rush the bars
causing long lines and waits. Recently many bars closed down and due to fire
safety regulations, the establishment must control the number of customers
inside.
13. Squeaky brakes on a car.
Why this happens: When brakes get worn down on a car, they can begin to
squeak, but since it doesn’t affect how your car performs for a time after
that, causing some automobile owners to drive for an extended time with squeaky
brakes.
14. Glare on tv screen
Why this happens: In my living room, a window to the outside is on the
left side of the tv and during certain times of the day the sun glares on the
screen making it hard to see.
15. Bikers flying through UF campus
Why this happens: With many students and the major congestion on the
roads and sidewalks, some students need to bike to make it to class on time,
but the bike lanes aren’t marked well or used properly causing many dangerous
instances daily.
16. Not getting a refill in a Buffalo
Wild Wings on gameday
Why this happens: On busy nights in a restaurant it can be difficult for
servers to keep up, and on game days Buffalo Wild wings can get so busy that
sometimes your server wont check on you until its too late and your mouth is on
fire.
17. When the person in front of you at
the grocery store pays with a check
Why this happens: Many people still use written checks to pay for things
and if you get behind somebody using one, especially after being accustomed to
fast checkouts, can hold you up and cause a longer wait.
18. Getting woken up early by lawn
mowers.
Why this happens: Living on a golf course has its perks, but many days
begin with the greens crew preparing the course and waking up residents along
the course with loud maintenance and machinery.
19. Tasting rum in my whiskey diet
Why this happens: When the bars are packed and lines to get a drink are
torturous, the bartenders can be distracted, stressed, or just rushed and make
the wrong drink, and the lines are too long to get a new one so I end up with a
bad drink after waiting for 10 minutes.
20. Getting sent the wrong item when
ordering online from Pac sun
Why this happens: Online shops have a warehouse where the keep the goods
and prepare them for shipment, and sometimes they make mistakes and have new
people on the job make it possible for people to mess up and you can end up
with the wrong item.
Working
backwards is obviously a great way to solve a problem, and when facing a tough
issue this technique would be a great way to look back and see how these issues
could be fixed or prevented. When making this list, I found it difficult to
find appropriate bugs that have a source and not just little things that can
get annoying. Many items I’ve listed have to do with expectations that I have
going in, just like other customers, and it bugs me when I don’t receive the
service I’m there for. Other things are due to people not caring and just
rushing around, not realizing that their actions are affecting other people,
for instance my example of getting scooter damage. Just like getting woken up
by the lawn mowers on an early morning, no solution can really fix this problem
without throwing many other things out of whack. Many other bugs do have a
solution that can benefit every side of the situation, and some need extensive
look at the past to try and find a viable solution, which is where the skill of
making this list can come into play.
Hi David, I relate to a lot of these, especially the one about the slow drivers on I75. I agree with what you said in the last paragraph, because a lot of the things I thought of, I ultimately had to scrap because they either are just part of life or had been caused by me. It's true that a lot of the problems listed just need someone to ask "why" in order to start thinking of solutions, but most people just go about their day, mildly irritated and no closer to solving the problem.
